We regularly have enquiries from nurseries and primary schools about waterproofs for the Foundation Stage (Foundation Phase in Wales). As the Foundation Stage places a strong emphasis on learning through outdoor play, many schools are looking for fun ways to keep their pupils clean and dry.
The most popular waterproof for this age range is undoubtedly the Bodge the Badger Jumbo Suit which is part of the Outdoor Scene core range of children's waterproofs and continues to be a best seller year after year. Easy to put on and off by the kids, lightweight enough for ease of movement during play and waterproof enough to sit in puddles! It comes in red, navy, royal and pink in sizes 1-2 to 7-8 years.
We always recommend that schools purchase one colour for each size of suit, so the staff and children can easily identify sizes. Some schools prefer to stick to one colour however, to prevent arguments!
The 2 piece suits, either Bodge the Badger Splash Trousers and Splash Jackets or GTI Andes Trousers and Kobe Jacket prove more popular with older children. Equally as waterproof as the Jumbo suits, we either sell them as separates or complete suits.
Another option, the one children seem to fall in love with, is the Bugzz Ponchos. These are not strictly waterproof but they are showerproof and offer good protection (particularly if worn with over-trousers) and come in a fun range of designs. They have been really popular for nursery and special needs children. The seams are sealed and once popped up under the arms, they will not blow up with the wind!
